While there are many things on this earth that I feel I am pretty good at, something I am confident I would be horrid at is being an ice road trucker, for a number of reasons, but primarily because I don’t laugh after every time I make a comment.

Ice Road Yucker

Having helped build the Alaska Pipeline and driving what was then called the “Haul Road”, now the Dalton Hwy as a Teamster, I watch the Ice Road Trucker series for nostalgia reasons. But i get pretty disgusted with the inaccuracies and outright lies the producers resort to just to make it more dramatic. Yes, it is not a road you can drive without some preparation and knowledge of proper driving techniques for snow and ice. But it is nowhere near what is depicted in the TV series. I’ll still watch just for old times sake, and to bring back memories of the great time in my life when I lived and worked in Alaska, but want people to know it is not quite as dramatic as the show depicts.
