Spasms of the Diaphragm

Last night I got the hiccups, and they lasted almost 30 minutes. I literally couldn’t remember the last time I had the hiccups, seems like it must have been over a year ago. Is this normal?

Hiccup: a quick, involuntary inhalation that follows a spasm of the diaphragm and is suddenly checked by closure of the glottis, producing a short, relatively sharp sound.

I simply have to exert my authority over my glottis. I feel so out of control.
