The Written Word

The past few months I have made it a small personal goal to try to start/finish a number of the books on my bookshelf that I have purchased but never read.

Books I have recently read and am feeling quite good about myself for reading are:

Guns, Germs and Steel by Jared Diamond – basically a history of the entire world and why the world and civilizations have developed and evolved the way they have. A thick book but very insightful.

The World Without Us by Alan Weisman – what would happen to the world if humanity ceased to exist. Fascinating stuff and makes you realize how much humanity is harming the world.

I’m in the middle of reading, Guests of the Ayatollah by Mark Bowden – an in-depth look at the Iran hostage crisis in 1979. I really like Bowden’s books, I’ve also read Black Hawk Down, Killing Pablo, and Finders Keepers by Bowden.

I also read The Appeal by John Grisham – substandard compared to most of his legal fiction.

If you have book suggestions for me based upon what I seem to enjoy reading please let me know!

  1. Hmm, so I recommend Ishmael by Daniel Quinn. It’s in the same theme of how we humans have messed up the Earth. Made me think. Also, it’s only one of the few books Lindsay has ever read (she had to read it for sociology in college I think)
